LEGACY OF KAIN: DEFIANCE (PS2) FAQ/Walkthrough By Ultima13 July 6, 2005 Version 1.00 Email: See Contact Info section DISCLAIMER. Sep 08, 1999 For Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver on the PC, GameFAQs has 9 FAQs (game guides and walkthroughs).
Chapter 4The door with the raven-head gargoyles can't be accessed for now, so head out the other door. There will be a batch of tendrils waiting for you. If they catch you, they will drain health rapidly. Jam the attack button to make them let go. Deal with them and return via the winding passage. The door will shut behind you, unfortunately it's sealed by a Dark Lock, so you can't get back through yet. You'll see some Vampire Hunters talking about the pillars.
They'll see you and attack. There are two male and two female Hunters, you will have to kill them to move on. Raziel will give you your objective, and you can move about again. Now you should return to the crypt you first came from. Raziel will comment on the temples along the way. Be sure to jump up and grab the Health Talisman in the broken 'window.' Head into the crypt.
Inside, you'll get a nasty surprise. A quartet of walking corpses will accost Raziel. These aren't your normal zombies, however. These are Revenants: The bodies of warriors animated by vengeful or evil spirits. They're tough and annoying, and you'll face them almost non-stop as Raziel.
Once you've devoured their green (? Hmm ) souls, you should head downstairs. At the bottom you'll face five more Revenants. Ignore the scalable wall for now; you'll need the Light Reaver to do anything.Keep heading down until you reach the water. Dive in and find the unreachable hole from earlier. You can get there now, since you can swim. Once out, drag the pillar back one notch and use it to jump up.
Grab the shield and swim back to the surface. Find the two statues and place the shield. Go through and use the door. You're in a large circular room with a column in the middle.
Fight the four Revenants and keep going. Now go Spectral and phase through the grate. There's a batch of tendrils down below, so be careful.
The column has lowered, so jump to it, then jump to the other opening. There are tendrils along the path, so be aware. Emerge from the crypt and Raziel will notice another set of ruins. Butcher the Slaughs and transfer back. You'll be right next to a bunch of Hunters. You can shoot them onto the spikes, but it's hard without the ability to actually toss them like Kain.Go through the door opposite the ruins.
You're in another crypt, which means you should expect Revenants. Sure enough, there's a whole lot waiting for you in a square room. Crush 'em and head through the big door. You'll be back outside, but now on the second 'floor.' Glide across to the ruins and just TK the Hunters off the ruins. It's easier than risking falling off. Grab the TK Rune and glide across to the Dark Ruins.
Once again, expect a Revenant ambush. Go forward and come to another stone circle. Jump up onto the raised stones and shift. The stones will raise, so jump over to the door and shift back. This door has a Reaver Lock; in this case it's a Material Lock. Obviously, you already have the Material Reaver, so open it up. See that odd stand?
Hop down to it. You now have to face a whole bunch of Shadows. Once that's done, the Warp Gate to the Dark Forge will open.Go through the Gate. Before we go any further, I should note that the Forges, whether playing as Raziel or Kain, are crawling with Shadows. There are so many in fact, that it would be pointless to try listing them all.
Besides, you should know the drill by now. Just assume that Forge=Lots of Shadows and you'll be OK.
Anyway, head down the hall to another mural, then shift and phase through the gate. Go ahead and slaughter the Slaughs, then find the room with the skull. The entrance will seal with green glyphs, indicating Hylden presence. Shift back and get ready to battle some Revenants. Defeat them and the tendrils near the Forge.
Now use the Forge. Congrats, you've got the Dark Reaver. You will also notice that the Warp Gate has stopped working. This will happen in all the Forges. You must use the reaver to alter certain things in each Forge to reopen its Gate after you get a new reaver.Anyway, bust open the cracked door to get a Health Talisman.
Now darken the light orbs and find the room with the scalable wall. Climb up and, after offing some Revenants, take the Gate back to the Cemetery. Use the Dark Magic to get past the Crow Heads. Make your way back to the central area of the Cemetery, avoiding the Hunters, and go through the door with the Dark Lock. Head back to the crypt, and sure enough, there're some Revenants waiting for you. Use the Dark Magic to slip past the Crow Heads, and shift to get through the grate up ahead.
The game pretty much spells out what you have to do. Shift back, glide to the first platform, shift, then glide to the second platform and then to the opening. You'll be in Kain's mausoleum. Shift back and take the Kain Family Crest. Some Revenants will appear, deal with them appropriately.Go upstairs to the room with the bust, fighting a couple more Revenants on the way. Spin the bust so the grate lifts, then use the door. There are a bunch of Shadows in here, so deal with them then place the Crest upstairs.
Go out and you'll be at the Light ruins from earlier. Shove down the pillar and position it so you can use it and the stone circle to reach the ruins. It's a Dark Lock, so use the Dark Reaver. Hop down, and then climb up the wall. Grab the Faceted Orb, then make your way around so you can bust the skylight open. Now hop down again and place the Orb to activate the Warp Gate.
Go through. You're now in the Light Forge, so expect a few Shadows to show up. Shift so you can phase through the grate. Hop down and kill the scattered Slaughs if you want to. Shift back and grab the Arcane Tome, then use the Forge. You have received the Light Reaver, and now you have to fight an Angelic Golem.
He's of the lesser variety, so he's rather easy. You can tell when he's dead because he'll make a sound like a Demon Beast getting flushed down some sort of Spectral toilet. Now it's time to get the heck out of Dodge.
Break the cracked door and climb up the wall, then light the dark orbs to reactivate the Gate. Go Spectral to get back through the grate, then kill the gaggle of Slaughs and shift back. Use the Gate. Unfortunately, nothing's ever that easy, and a bunch of Shadows will attack as you attempt to leave. Now head to the door opposite the ruins again, making your way through the crypt again.
And get ambushed by Revenants. Anyway, head out the door back to the main area.
It'll show where to go to end the level, but we don't want to do that just yet. Instead, head back to the very first crypt, the one you escaped the Elder from. Avoid the Hunters, there's too many to be an even fight.
Once inside, head down to that scalable wall. Yep, we've got the Light Reaver, so you can unlock that door now. Do so and retrieve a Health Talisman for a total of three, increasing your max health. No head back out deal with the Hunters using your enhanced health Or just run past them to the exit.
Your choice, really. Anyway, when you reach the gateway, darken the light orb and light the dark orb. Congratulations, you just made it through the second biggest chapter in the game.
Chapter 6Head through. You'll see a mural depicting Vorador as quite the handyman, doing such things as building the sword that would become the Soul Reaver.
Now head into the main room, and jump down. There are some tendrils down here, but the Fire Forge isn't active. So you'll need to kick some Ancient ghost butt. Go Spectral and phase through the leftmost gate to face your first boss.BOSS: Nature WraithLuckily, she's one of the easiest Wraiths, as her pillar mostly creates, rather than destroys.
However, she's still got some very annoying attacks. First off, she has the InVulno Shockwave attack that all wraiths have (Spellcasters have a shockwave as well, but thy aren't invincible while they do it), and she also summons an infinite supply of Elder-esque tendrils to attack you. She also launches a near constant barrage of weird little balls that move erratically: sometimes slow, sometimes fast, sometimes homing, sometimes wandering. However, she possesses nothing in terms of direct attacks, so strike as many times as possible in-between shockwaves, and she should fall easily. Now, head to the far right, hopefully snagging a soul along the way, and be ready to face your next boss.BOSS: Conflict WraithConnie here's pretty easy too, only fitting for the first bosses. He attacks by summoning up Shadows and launching lances of super-fast energy at you, in addition to the InVulno TM Shockwave.
His difficulty depends on chance mostly, if he hardly summons at all and constantly shoots lances, he can be quite tough. If he mainly summons and shockwaves, he's easier than the Nature Wraith. This is due to the fact that your charge will build very quickly from killing the shadows, allowing you to decimate him with charged attacks.Once he too is beaten, the Fire Reaver will be fit for the taking. Shift back (just look around for the purple skull, not too hard) and grab the sucka.
Hooray, a new reaver! Now use it to light the sconces in the room on the first floor, and then head upstairs via the odd little room nearby. Go to the room with the TK switch. Now jump up and light those two, and skedaddle out of the Fire Forge.
Go ahead and test out the Fire Reaver on the nearby Revenants. I think you'll be pleased by the result. Now go to the totem and light the torches at the gate, then spin the totem. Go through and deal with the Hunters and Strongman you encounter.
Go to the pillars for a cryptic cutscene.Once it's over, there will be a bunch of Hunters all about. Be sure to grab the TK Rune sometime.
Now head to the forward right (right of the Pillars). Grab the Arcane Tome and walk into the obvious trap. Luckily, it goes slightly awry as Hylden possess two of the Hunters. Take the disk and head back to the other obvious trap, near the gate. Place the disk once you're done and keep moving. Some more Hunters, and most likely another possession. Head to the ruins, and deal with the Hunters on the first floor.
It's a shame you can't chuck folks around yet Jump onto the second, taller pillar and go Spectral. Now jump to the second floor and shift back. Deal with the remaining hunters. Now head forward, it's time to get the Wind Reaver. Down at the pond, try to convince Abobo there to join you for a little dip. Unfortunately, they obviously don't teach you how to swim at the Big Top.
That done, glide over to the Fire Lock and go through.
